10 Rules for Perfectly Wearing Men's Watches

Fashionable men know how to dress. Period. Inside and outside of the house. When it comes to watches, it's an entirely different world. People are a little more fuzzy about the rules. Rules are rules and even though they are meant to be broken, we often see complete mismatches and faux pas. Read below our guide.

  • Wear your watch on your strong wrist

The tradition was to always wear your watch on the non-dominant wrist. Don't let tradition tell you how to live your life. Simply enough, where your watch where you find it the most comfortable. Trust us, your wrist will thank you!

  • Never wear a sports watch with a tuxedo

You're right, James Bond did it. Well, that does not make it right! James Bond was a spy who died nearly a million times and came back to life the second after thanks to Q. Sports watches are bulky, and they don't fit well under a suit or tuxedo. You would not wear sunglasses at the movies so the same rule applies to men's watches.

  • Psychology of Colors

Watches for men are meant to an accessory. An accessory as per the dictionary says "contributing to or aiding an activity or process in a minor way". Hence, watches follow the same reasoning. A watch for the day will have light colors while a watch for evenings will be darker.

  • Use your watch wisely and politely!

Even though a wonderful watch is one of a man’s ultimate accessories, checking it can have some negative repercussions. While you have to watch your watch if you don't want to be late, don't check your watch if you're at a dinner party, in a restaurant or a job interview! "Good manners are appreciated as much as bad manners are abhorred." Bryant H. McGill

  • Skip the bling-bling Bro

Wearing a huge diamond-encrusted watch is fine if you’re Tyga, Eminem or 50 Cents (which we all love by the way) but it has no place in your wardrobe. Gentlemen are classy. Like an oversized watch, flashy diamonds are simply a desperate cry for attention. Unless they're real, fake diamonds known as zirconium will look cheap and people will wonder if they're real... Skip them.

  • Rotate your watches

Don’t wear the same watch every day. Let's assume you have the best outfit in the world picked out by Anna Wintour herself, you would not wear it every day! The same goes for watches. Work, gym, outings, dinners, and parties all require different clothes and hence different watches.

  • How Should My Watch Fit?

Size matters. Your watch needs to be the proper fit. Your watch wears too tight if it’s leaving imprints on your skin. Alternatively, if your watch wears too loose if you can fit several fingers under the band. Instead, your watch should be loose enough that it slides around just a bit on your wrist.

  • Take care of your watch

A great watch will hold its value over time if you take care of it. You wouldn't buy a beautiful condo and never clean. Same for a sports car. Respect your watch and enjoy it. Make it sleep in a watch box. Gently clean with the watch head and the watch bracelet with a soft, lint-free cloth.

  • Proportion, proportion, proportion

If you have a small wrist and opt for a large case, this will appear even larger. Geometry. The same is true for the contrary. No one size fits all here. Try on various styles and sizes and see what looks awesome on you!

  • Enjoy your watch ... and life!
